Renaissance Style Drawings

Thanks to all the students who were involved in the Renaissance style drawing classes supported by the Da Vinci’s Demons production team. Here are some of my Renaissance efforts that are being used for set dressing. Some of these are large scale, others are as small as A5.

This was my second attempt at silverpoint. I hated it the first time, but working directly with Ben allowed my focus to shift from the media onto my subject matter and his representation. Will use it again love the historical baggage attatched to this media.

The life drawing room with Diane modelling. There was no underdrawing, worked directly with the tattoo machine. Very raw at this stage – will work on it some more and re-post. Haven’t quite got to grips with my new shader machine yet, but it is starting to make a bit more sense. Loving this totally new media!

All very new and although the drawing is overworked in areas, this was an exercise in treating the tattoo machine (and practice skin) as traditional drawing media….. and it was fun!

Is it me or is there a spooky resemblence between this figure and Nick Cave?Nick Cave and Paula Rego in one go- made my day!

Copy of Saint Dymphna. Difficult to retain fluid and amimated mark making, characteristc of Regos draughtsmanship, while retaining accuracy. Would like to have returned and copied a number of times until the movements felt more gestural and less controlled and contrived
